Guideline value vs market value, and how stamp duty value is chosen

What is stamp duty value? It is the value on which stamp duty on purchase of property is computed. In many states that is the higher of the agreement price and the official guideline value / circle rate / government market value.

Guideline value vs market value

Guideline value vs market value confuses buyers because the “market” you negotiated may be below the notified rate. Registration still often uses the notified figure. That is why e registration market value of land lookups matter before you budget.

Stamp paper value

Stamp paper charges and stamp paper value are how duty used to be paid in many places. Many states now prefer stamp duty online / e-stamping. The duty amount is still driven by the instrument and the value, not by the colour of the paper.
